U.S. could become new coronavirus epicenter, WHO says

“The US has a very large outbreak, which is increasing in intensity,” said WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris.

The World Health Organization said Tuesday that it is observing a “Great acceleration” in coronavirus infections in the United States, and that the country could become the new epicenter of the crisis.
In the past 24 hours, 85% of new cases were detected in Europe and the United States, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris told reporters. From those, 40% belong to the United States.

When asked if the United States could become the new epicenter, Harris noted that “now we are seeing a great acceleration of cases in the United States, so has that potential”

“(The United States) has a very large outbreak, is increasing in intensityHe added.

In total, the global outbreak is accelerating very rapidly and Harris indicated that significant increases in the number of cases and deaths are expected from the 334 thousand 981 cases and 14 thousand 510 deaths reported today.
