5 People Arrested in Connection to Pop Smoke Murder

Los Angeles police say they have arrested five people in connection with the killing earlier this year of Bashar Jackson — the rapper more famously known as Pop Smoke.

Three men and two juvenile males were arrested, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday. They are in the custody of the Robbery-Homicide Division, a department spokesperson told today.

The 20-year-old rapper, whose real name is Bashar Jackson, was shot and killed at 2033 Hercules Drive just before 5 a.m. Feb. 19.

LAPD officers made the discovery when they responded to the residence after getting reports of multiple people unlawfully entering the home, at least one of them armed with a handgun.

"Early this morning, search and arrest warrants were served in several locations in the city of Los Angeles," stated a spokesperson from the LAPD Media Relations Division. "The warrants were all related to the February 19 murder of Bashar Jackson, also known as Pop Smoke. Robbery-Homicide Division has three adult males and two juvenile males in custody. Once they are questioned and completely booked, we will be able to provide the booking information."

The Los Angeles Times reports homicide investigators say the rapper may have inadvertently posted an image with the home’s address on social media before he was killed.

The home is owned by Teddi Mellencamp of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and her husband, Edwin Arroyave, according to property records, the Times reports.
