Cargo ship on fire near La Paz

La Paz - It is reported that all passengers and crew of the ferry San Guillermo, of the company Transportadora Marítima California (TMC), where a fire broke out this morning while departing from Pichilingue to Topolobampo, were evacuated just in time.

As it has been reported, very early in the morning, the security corporations were alerted about this event, after the Port Captaincy (Capitanía de Puerto) received the fire alert on the ship via VHF frequency through channel 70, very close to Pichilingue.

Immediately, tourist service boats and fishermen approached the San Guillermo Ferry, where it was observed that there was smoke in the stern (back).

In coordination with the Civil Protection brigades, the Mexican Navy, the Port Administration and private individuals, the 24 passengers were evacuated.

It should be noted that the fire was controlled and only one of the occupants of the vessel suffered a mild panic attack due to stress.

The causes of the fire are being investigated.

TMC provides cabotage services between the ports of Mazatlan and Topolobampo to La Paz. It has three ferries: Don Guillermo, Santa Marcela and San Jorge.
