61 Acres of Palm Trees Lost in Mulege Fire

One of the most destructive fires in memory was the one that occurred today in the population of Mulege and that a few hours ago was controlled by firemen without any loss of life being recorded.

The Civil Protection Office said the area affected is equivalent to 50 percent of the entire date palm plantation in that town.

Many volunteers took part in supporting the extinguishing of the flames, which spread very quickly and with the help of the wind.

Also present were officers from the National Guard, the Fire Department of Loreto, San Ignacio and Santa Rosalia, and the Mexican Army.

It is not yet known what started this conflagration, which left incalculable losses in the local ecosystem since in addition to the plants, local animal species also died.

It will begin with the investigations, said the director of Civil Protection of the Government of Baja California Sur, Carlos Godinez Leon.

  1. Spent many years traveling down from San Diego to dive and enjoy the gorgeous beaches of Santa Inez and Punto Chivato. Very sad to read this.
