Arizona Border Patrol Agents Arrest Escaped Colorado Prisoners

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two fugitives who escaped from a prison in Florence, Colorado, Wednesday.

Tucson Sector agents patrolling west of Sells, Arizona, initiated an immigration related traffic stop on a 2010 Nissan Titan around 5 p.m. Wednesday.  During the stop, they encountered a 30-year-old female driver and two adult male passengers.

The Border Patrol says it arrested a 30-year-old woman who was driving the men, but later said that the aiding and abetting charge she faced was dropped because of coronavirus-related restrictions.

The two men initially claimed to be illegal aliens wishing to be immediately returned to Mexico. Ultimately, they admitted to agents they were U.S. citizens and had escaped from a prison in Florence, Colorado, May 27th.

Both 35-year-old Jose Rodriguez and 42-year-old Raul Guzman are serving multiyear sentences for various drug charges.

Agents arrested Rodriguez and Guzman, as well as the driver, and turned them over to the U.S. Marshals Service.
