Reporter from Los Cabos to the war correspondents mural

ICFJ works at the nexus of journalism and technology, building the expertise and storytelling skills of reporters worldwide. Through that work, journalists are enhancing news coverage and connecting more deeply with their audiences.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will present the ICFJ Tribute to Journalists at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Oct. 5. Journalists and others who value journalism excellence around the world.

Prior to the event, a virtual mural has been built as a tribute to journalists from many different parts of the world, mainly war reporters who risk their lives covering events.

For Los Cabos, Hermelinda Vargas Espino, reporter of the news site Colectivo Pericu, who broadcast live acts of violence between drug gangs that clashed in Los Cabos and La Paz, is participating in this virtual wall.

Hermelinda Vargas was the only Baja California woman journalist who courageously covered these acts of violence and many of her stories went around the world on major news networks.

This year, virtual tribute will take ICFJ’s Annual Awards Dinner from one ballroom in Washington, D.C., to the world.
