Two fires in the San Jose del Cabo estuary

Gigantic columns of smoke could be seen from different points in San Jose del Cabo, when it was reported that palm trees and dry grass were on fire in the ecological reserve known as "El Estero".

It was a fire on Sunday afternoon that was put out after six hours by volunteer personnel, Civil Protection brigades and fire departments, with support from local companies and the Los Cabos water system.

What was surprising (see video below), is that on Monday afternoon the ecological reserve started to catch fire again and emergency services had to be applied to extinguish the flames.

The Ecology office of the Los Cabos government said that no animal species were killed in the two fires, only palm trees and dry branches were burned.

Brigades are now clearing roads called "corta fuegos" to prevent the flames from spreading due to the effects of the wind.
