What happened at Soriana market?

That was the question many residents of the city of San Jose del Cabo were asking themselves last Tuesday night, when suddenly the customers of the well-known supermarket were removed by security staff and the area was filled with police units.

By 8:00 p.m. the eviction of hundreds of shoppers doing their seasonal purchases had been completed and yellow police tapes were placed at all entrances.

Moments earlier, an unknown individual near the cash register area, pulled out a knife with which he inflicted several wounds on himself while shouting to everyone not to approach him. One of the wounds that caused him to collapse was to his chest.

A Red Cross ambulance managed to evacuate him to the hospital, but he died on the way.

It was a very unusual act of suicide, in full view of many people.

The market remained closed for the rest of the night.
